About Us:
History:

Harmonia was founded in 1999 in Blacksburg, VA. Over the years we have developed the LiquidApps® suite of development tools. LiquidApps® brings user interface design and development from the programmers to the subject matter expert who is best able to develop the software. Additional modules convert legacy code such as Ada to Java. Harmonia developed the UIML language to allow user interfaces to work on multiple platforms without recoding the application. Harmonia has worked on a number of major software development projects over the years and refined the software and the systems it operates on. See www.harmonia.com for more information on LiquidApps®.

Harmonia is a woman owned, small disadvantaged business located in a HUBZone.

The success of Harmonia's legacy modernization methodology and tools is largely due to Mr. Tremblett's knowledge of language internals, especially Ada. Mr. Tremblett's first involvement with Ada was in the mid 1980s when he was invited to serve as consultant on an Ada implementation for a microprocessor at New York University's Courant Institute, widely recognized as the home of the GNU Ada Translator (GNAT). During his tenure at NYNEX, Mr. Tremblett led large legacy system transformation projects that involved, not only conversions from one language to another, but also migration of systems from mainframes to smaller servers. Mr. Tremblett led a team charged with converting a service order processing system consisting of a half million lines of code from a legacy language (PL/1) to C, which was now becoming widely used on IBM mainframes. Strict regulation by the Public Service Commission meant a zero tolerance for failure or errors. The success of this effort was a direct result of techniques used by Mr. Tremblett when he participated in converting this same system from COBOL to PL/1 in the late 1970s. A PL/1 language profiler Mr. Tremblett had developed played a major role in the conversion. Other projects in which Mr. Tremblett played a leading role included deployment of the first Enhanced 911 system in the country.

Harmonia's approach to legacy modernization includes exposing some functionality of existing systems as web services, and Mr. Tremblett is regarded as an expert in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). His articles on web services and registries have been published by Dr. Dobb's Journal, a publication of CMP Publishing. During the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Mr. Tremblett developed a music recognition and reporting system for NBC that ensured timely payment of royalties to composers, arrangers and performers. This real-time system consisted of a proprietary music detection system installed in Athens, an Open Source MySQL database running on Linux in the UK, a commercial installation of Oracle in New Jersey, and the .NET code mandated by NBC, as a Microsoft partner, at its data center in New York. The system owed its success to web services Mr. Tremblett designed and developed.

Paul worked for Vonage where he oversaw development of signup kiosk for retail stores. He also worked for NYNEX (now Verizon) on data acquisition software to monitor and report on central office equipment and trunking facilities.
